Terms for Chaperones
Chaperoning TN State Convention, National Beta Convention, or Leadership Conference is an important responsibility. Parents, family members, or alumni serving as chaperones are extensions of the school staff and thus are expected to model behavior that is consistent with the high expectations that we have for our staff and students. 1. Attendance at the chaperone meeting is mandatory. (Booster Meeting prior to trip) Absence from this meeting is grounds for exclusion as a chaperone. This will be decided by the head best sponsor. The briefing for chaperones will contain: a. Itinerary of the convention/conference. b. Transportation routes. c. Planned procedures to follow in the event of emergencies or unusual circumstances. d. Rosters, contact information, and relevant information of any student(s) that will be in their charge. (Parent Chaperones may not necessarily have their own child on their roster.) 2. Chaperones will ride to and from the destination with the students unless prior approval has been granted by the head best sponsor. 3. Chaperones will maintain a list of Betas in their charge and take attendance at specific times as directed by the head best sponsor. 4. Chaperones will abstain from the use of alcohol, tobacco, and illegal drugs throughout the duration of the trip. The possession of weapons is rohibited for staff members, pupils, and chaperones. 5. Chaperones will adhere to any other convention/trip-‐specific rules as directed by the Beta Sponsor in charge. 6. Chaperones will be assigned a room or cabin and must remain in that location unless a situation is brought to the attention of the Beta Sponsor in charge, who will determine alternate arrangements if warranted. 7. It is the responsibility of the chaperone to immediately report any situation that may be inconsistent with this policy to the Beta Sponsor in charge.
